Come on a voyage of discovery with us.
Every story begins somewhere. Ours starts in 1866 in Boffzen, a small village in the south of Lower Saxony. You can read about the successes and the crises that Noelle + von Campe has lived through here.
With a base capital of 45.000 thaler, the three entrepreneurs Heinrich Schmidt, Friedrich Bartling and Heinrich Witte found the glass factory in Boffzen. At that time it went by the name of Bartling & Co. After just a few months on the market, the glassworks had established itself. Mainly drinking glasses and preserving jars are made.
Eight years later, Henrich Schmidt becomes the last of the three founders to leave the company. The factory goes into the ownership of August von Campe and the brothers Heinrich and August Noelle, who each buy a share of 20.000 thaler. From 18 October 1874, the glassworks is officially called Noelle und von Campe
Noelle und von Campe sets up various social benefits to offer its glassblowers and factory workers an attractive environment: company health insurance, homes for workers, company festivals and a savings association.
Noelle und von Campe continually extends its product range. Salt and pepper shakers, perfume and pill bottles, milk bottles and lampshades are produced along with customised developments. One invention is the ‘blaue Heinrich’, a cobalt blue pocket bottle into which sufferers from tuberculosis could cough. It is even mentioned in the novel ‘The Magic Mountain’
